The
Eighth District Dental Society maintains an active contact
program with students at the University at Buffalo School
of Dental Medicine. The Dental Society assists in the transition
from Dental School to the world of dental practice with a
mentoring program. The Council on the New Dentist provides
input in the design of programs and services by the Eighth
District to meet the needs of those dentists in the first
five years of their practices.
Mentoring Program
In collaboration with the Erie County Dental Society,
the Eighth District Council on the New Dentist sponsors a
Mentoring Luncheon during the Annual Buffalo Niagara Dental
Meeting. Member dentists are invited to host students currently
enrolled at UB at the luncheon. The luncheon program features
leaders in organized dentistry speaking about the advantages
of organized dentistry. The contact between dentists and students
during the luncheon also fosters dialogue between students
and mentors which will hopefully continue past the luncheon
program.
The Eighth District Council on the New Dentist also promotes
dialogue between dentists and students by posting a “bulletin
board” listing on this website of dentists by specialty area
who are available to respond to inquiries from students. Participating
dentists in the E-Mentor Program agree to be available to
correspond electronically with students regarding clinical
issues in their specialty area and to discuss career-related
issues. Dentists interested in participating in this program
may contact Jennifer
Kapinos at the Eighth District Dental Society at 716-995-6300.
